ACLU challenging half-pay for discharged gays

Soldiers honorable discharged under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy receive 1/2 the pay as straight soldiers under a 1991 policy which was never enacted by congress.

  • Sounds to me that it is a policy in this case. Not a good one but one never the less. Maybe this lawsuit will make them think about changing the policy. Changing the policy is what needs to be done.

  • Under current military code he could have been charged with a crime. I think he is just lucky he wasn't dishonorably discharged.

    You can't change the rule/law/code for something that is over and done. You have to change it for the future.

    For the record, I think you should get the full pay if you are honorably discharged....regardless of the reason. If you are going to be punished it should be with a dishnorable discharge and not with the withholding of pay.

    well, since you brought it up.... gotta love how christianity believes that their rights are being infringed upon when they are called out for violating the rights of others. Your rights end where everyone else's begin.

    Well, since "everyone else" has rights BUT us, I guess we are even. Thank God for the ACLJ, and Jay Sekulow, who refuses to let that happen.
