Are you comfortable holding other people's babies?

Even though I have an infant son, I feel weird holding someone else's baby. Like I have to be super fragile.

  • I loved holding my own babies but never really felt all that comfortable holding other people's babies. I think that was part of the reason I found it so sad when my babies stopped being babies. I'm hoping to get a baby holding fix again when I have grandchildren; I'm assuming holding grandchildren will be completely wonderful and not the same as holding other people's babies.

  • I love holding babies, my own, my best friends, and anyone who will let me hold their baby.

  • I love to hold them. I love babies in general. But I get a little nervous, cuz I know how I would feel if someone else was holding mine.

  • Yes, especially when they're really small. I think I'll always feel awkward around newborns, especially someone else's. My son could hold his head up well early, so I'm always afraid I'll misjudge what someone else's baby can or can't do at certain ages--so I err on the side of caution and overcompensate by being extra gentle. My son is also a bit of a thrill seeker where some babies/kids are more mellow, so I like to get a feel for how they like to play, and usually just don't feel very comfortable with them until I've been around them a lot (like family or really close friends' babies). I never liked other people holding my son unless they knew him well though, because he would make sudden movements and was really strong, so I was always afraid they would drop him.

  • The only thing I worry about is the parents minding my holding. I feel pretty comfortable with newborns. They are not nearly as fragile as we first thinking they are when we bring them home. =P

  • I worked in my church nursery every Sunday morning for 2 years in the baby room, so yeah I'm pretty comfortable.

  • Yes, I'm comfortable...a little nervous with newborns as my daughter is almost 2 1/2 and it feels like forever ago that I held a friend had a baby last January and I swear I was shaking a little when I first had him. My daughter was only 6 1/2 lbs when she was born so she was a tiny little she's a whopping 29lbs!

  • not at all. Guess that's why I did so well in infant daycare. There would be like 8 or so newborns between me and another lady and we had it all under control. LOL I will hold anyones newborn if they allow me. I loves little ones.
