  • Be nearby while they try to do it on their own. Give them clues to help them get the answers but do not do the work for them.. Help them see the question or problem in a different way if necessary. Even asking it with a different inflection can be a help. If research is involved give them ideas to help get their ideas flowing.

  • I let them do their homework on their own but then recheck it when done. As for spelling words they either right them out or even spell them out loud. They wait and do homework after dinner so they are in better moods to do homework after some down time. Just sit at the kitchen table with them. Use home made flash cards if want to. That is what works for us. Try different things to see what works for you.
