A good way to introduce solids?

We have started my 4 1/2 month old on cereal recently. Anyone know a good site, or have information about when I can start to introduce veggies and fruits baby food to her?

  • Both Gerber's and Nature's Best webstites have good info.
Make sure you use a spoon - that's one of the points of giving solids... to teach the baby to accept a spoon.
Start with cereals or veggies. Give fruits last. Most babies won't eat the meats so don't bother with them.
Give her a new food once a day for three days before giving her anything else new.
Don't bother with the 1st foods - the packages are smaller and they aren't really any different than the 2nd foods. Just make sure you give "single ingredient" foods.
Start with one meal a day. By the time she's 12 months, she should be getting 3 meals and 2 snacks.

  • Just try it and see what happens, you'll know when she's ready.

  • I started my baby on rice cereal at 4 months. He was on the rice cereal till just before six months and then I started him on the fruits (applesauce) then started him on veggies. When I started him on the fruits I would just mix in a little bit into his rice cereal, then do half and half, then started him on the food by itself. Every time I start him on a new type of food I only give him half the container to make sure he doesn't have an allergic reaction. I've just moved him up to stage 2 and he's almost 8 months. They say to start them on veggies first because they might not eat them after they've had sweets (fruits), but both my boys started out on applesauce and other fruits and they eat their veggies just fine.
