is this normal for a 4yr old?

my oldest has been sleeping longer than normal. he goes to bed around 7 and usually gets up at around 7-8. but this past week he's been sleeping till 11 or later. i check on him and ask him if he's okay, he just nods yes or no and snuggles in his blanket more. I'm at a loss. he has a dr appointment on monday but I'm confused. :(

  • He could be sick, or hitting a growth spurt. I think the doctors is a good idea. Maybe he's not sleeping well at night, tossing and turning or having bad dreams?

  • Growth spurt is my first assumption. My daughter goes through the sleeping spells occasionally and it usually doesn't last long. Is he eating more than usual? Mine will also pig out too during these times.

  • he's eating like normal, maybe more. i haven't really noticed. as for nightmares, he really doesn't have that many. i know when he has night terrors, he wakes up crying. maybe it is a growth spurt. i'll give a list to my dh when he takes my son in. (i usual am the one who asks the dr but i have an appointment myself with my pysch)

  • I would think growth spurt or he's coming down with something. My 4 yo goes through spurts like that too, with both sleeping and eating (not necessarily at the same time though) when he is growing a lot.

  • My kids tend to sleep more right before they hit a big growth spurt.

  • thanks guys, tho my pediatrition really didn't touch on that too much ( tho i do have short term memory loss cause of my add/bipolar) also the dr was more concerned with robin's eyes more than anything.
