is it possible to be pregnant and have all tests come back negative?

my friend for the past 4months has had a weird period. like its shorter then usual. she gets bleeding for a day and then spotting for 2. she says its usually 5days long. she has cramps almost a lot even wen its not close to her period. she's gained weight but not a lot and her stomach getting bigger, she cant fit in her pants anymore. yet she excercises and does a lot of dance so idk why she would b gaining weight enless she pregnant. but home n blood tests show negative. she even had an ultrasound and no baby. she been nauseous and throwin up, complaining about headaches, going to the bathroom every hr and a half.

  • Hun if she had an ultrasound and there was NO baby, then she isn't pregnant. BUT that doesn't mean she doesn't have any number of other things wrong with her, so she should have further tests done to look into other things

  • She should go see her doctor and if they can't find anything wrong go to another doctor but if all the test say she's not and the ultrasound didn't find a baby then it must be something else.

  • It could be a hormone imbalance or hysterical pregnancy.

  • Pregnancy test come up negative all the time and women are pregnant. My sister took several test over two months and they were negative. Then she found out that she was 14 weeks pregnant.

NOW the ultra sound being negative for a really can't get around that.

It sounds like she has a hormone imbalance. She should have her hormone levels tested. She could have high levels of progestrone.

  • Question... Is she wanting to be pregnant? Sometimes you can want to be pregnant so bad and think about it so much and then think you might be pregnant you can trick your body into having any number of pregnancy symptoms. I have had this happen to me at least twice in the last few years. Now if she wants to be pregnant and this may be her case I suggest that she calm down and accept the fact that she is not. I know its hard for someone who wants a baby to not think about it (been there) but it is necessary to get your mind and body working together. Good luck and if she is not pregnant then I hope this is all that is wrong with her. Its much easier to deal with then a big medical problem.

  • To continually have negative tests and be pregnant yes. To not see it on an ultrasound at four months NO. Tell her to get tested for hypothyroidism. There's something going on, but it is NOT pregnancy.
