we have a very old Netgear wireless router from 2007. We have two laptops we use, one is mine and one is my husbands. we do have a cheap internet plan from comcast because we cant afford the more expensive one but i know its the wireless router thats messing up. I need a new wireless router but dont know which one to buy since every one has there own opinion. Im looking at amazon.com right now. please post names and website links. thanks

  • Netgear and belkin seem to always have the best reviews.

Weve owned this one before...came from walmart though. its the cheapest and pretty simple. Honestly if your not networking an entire office something simple will suffice to replace it!!!

  • We use Linksys and Belkin too and they seem to work great (unless my brother gets on his computer and x-box at the same time because he runs a million things at once).

  • I think Linksys is now Cisco, which is a pretty good brand I used for years. We have a Belkin now and it is just as good.

  • You need to also see what your computers are compatible with. I have an N router, but my computer is N-compatible.
Other wireless routers are b or g. I think N gives you the best distance.

Personally, I haven't discovered a brand that's better than the other. I bought an Airport Extreme but I did not need that expensive of a router. I let myself get suckered at the time.

If you are finding your signal isn't strong enough, you can also purchase a USB Wireless adapter that helps pick up the signal in some dead spaces in the house.
