bedtime

What is a good bedtime? My daughter is 3 and it had been 8:30. But since the time change i have been puting her to bed at 7:30. It's just not working for me. I feel rushed to get dinner done and baths ect. i also have a 7 month old that i haven't really done any routine with yet.

  • If she is good with going to bed at 8:30pm and waking up in the morning fine, then leave her bedtime at 8:30pm, not changing it when the time changes. I think 7 or 7:30 is too early, especially if you work and have to come home and cook dinner, do baths, etc. That doesn't leave much time to spend with them.

  • My 3-year-old's has always been 8, which means starting the routine at about 7:30. My husband and I both work full time, and most nights we don't get home until after 6:00, so it does feel rushed...but it's what our son needs. If he gets to bed late, he wakes up too early, doesn't the sleep that he needs, and then his sleep schedule is messed up for days.

So I'd say the "right" time is whatever works for you and your kids. It will be different for everyone.

  • Try to move to 8. A good bedtime for their body is supposedly between 7 and 8:30. My 1 yr old is down at 8 (sometimes earlier, like 7:45) and the 2 yr old at 8:30. But I am a SAHM so they don't have to get up early, they get up between 7 and 8 on their own. Now if I had to wake them at 7 they would both have a 7 and a 7:30 bedtime. If you're feeling rushed go back to 8:30 or at least 8. Get the 7 month old in the routine too....then it will be easier for you as time goes on! They can both bathe together soon, I started putting mine in the tub together around that age for the baby. When he could sit well and was alright in the tub I put them in together.
