In your opinion

is there anything wrong with having an outside/garage dog? Meaning: you leave the garage door open and he comes in and goes out as he pleases. We live on an acreage, he has the run of over 5 acres, his food and water and cozy bed are all kept in the garage. At night we shut and lock the garage door.

  • where do you live, does it snow is it cold?

  • Yes it snows and is cold but the garage is insulated and he has blankets, i rescued him from an abusive family and couldn't get him house trained so he has to be in the garage, even in there he has accidents but i don't have the heart to get rid of him EVER! He's part of our family. Just curious what people thought of having farm dogs, b/c on another question i got bashed for thinking of buying another house dog since "i don't take proper care of the outside dog and let him be in the house"

  • The letting him roam free is a bad idea IMO. He could get run over, attacked by an animal,or attack someone else's pet

  • i meant, he roams around our yard, 5 acres isn't much, he doesn't go far, and doesn't leave yard or go on road-barely traveled road-no other pets around, and i'm home and keep a close eye of him. he usually just lays in the sun and sunbathes..oh the life of a dog :)

  • It sounds great. I live in the suburbs and we couldn't do that. It sounds like you are on some kind of farm.
