Are you against gay marriage for non-religious reasons?

I heard someone say on here (or shall i say, i read someone say) that there are some atheists & non-religous people who are against homosexuality & gay marriage for different reasons other than religious ones.

Do you believe there are folks that have a valid reason to be against homosexuality for non-religious reasons? Does anyone know what their reasonings are if they are not religious?

i just said reason 5 times...sorry for my bad english today...

  • "when they are begging the state for permission?"

They aren't "begging" for permission, they're asking for RECOGNITION. And its not the first time rights have had to be demanded. Look at women's suffrage, African American rights, etc, etc.

  • I don't think there is any good reason to be against homosexual marriage.

  • The Supreme Court ruled that marriage is a right decades ago, and is listed in the universal Declaration of Human Rights. So I don't care what "reasons" someone has, denying someone rights is something that shouldn't be tolerated. You can disagree for any "reason" you want (general you, lol, not singling anyone out), but your own rights stop at the end of your own nose and your own conduct - they aren't to be imposed on others.

  • "The state recognizes that opposite-sex marriages benefits the state (they create children who will increase spending of the family and one day enter the workforce) even though they cost money (collecting deceased spouse social security, claiming extra tax exemption, sharing health insu pol). If same-sex couples are allowed to marry, they only burden the state financially, they can't provide ecomonic benefits to the state. This is also why states doesn't allow blood relatives to marry either. "

Hmmm, then you should be against ALL non child bearing people from marrrying. NOT just gays. There are infertile couples, older couples who marry, couples who simply don't WANT children ever. Why not prevent them from marrying?
