Where would I buy Unsweetened Condensed Milk?

My husband is planning to make a Potato Soup for Thanksgiving and needs Unsweetened Condensed Milk. I've looked in Fred Meyer, Albertsons and Safeway so far. None of them have any this year. We plan to try Walmart on Wed. If they don't have any either, I don't know where to go next.

  • Unsweetened condensed milk is sold under that name in european countries. In the US that would be EVAPORATED Milk.

  • I've seen it at my local grocery store - Jewel Osco - I have also seen it in the baking isle at Walmart. Walmart will usually have an island display full of seasonal baking ingredients.

  • Oh and Albertsons and Jewel-Osco stores are owned by the same parent company; the names changes depending on where you live in the USA.

  • I agree with grneyedgrandma, it's evaporated milk. It has the same texture as the sweetened condensed milk, without the added sugar.

  • besides evaporated milk you can also use half and half, or heavy whipping cream - they are not shelf stable though.
