The best ways to determine pregnancy are by taking a test. All pregnancy tests work by detecting a certain hormone in the urine or blood that is only there when a woman is pregnant. This hormone is called human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. A urine test isn't always the best for testing for hCG and thus can show negative when you may actually be positive. So a blood test is really a better option. However if your test says positive, congratulations you are pregnant. A blood test is also needed by most doctors anyways to fully confirm pregnancy, so if you are pregnant it really saves time and money to just get the blood work done.
Without a test, the symptoms of pregnancy can also be the symptoms of other illnesses, so it's best either way to seek your doctor. Even if you aren't pregnant, you could have other complications that may need to be monitored or looked further into.
