  • Try putting tea tree oil in his shampoo and see if that helps.....or take him to the vet.

  • Get a flea preventative from the vet. The over the counter crap is dangerous and as you know does not work. I worked at a vet for 12 years and I can't tell you how many times an animal came in sick or had neurological problems because the owner put Hartz or one of those other brands on their pet. The ones to use that are safe and effective are Frontline, Advantage (my fav for fleas), and revolution

  • Oh and just an fyi using dawn or other dish soap is only a temporary solution. That will get the fleas off the dog but it does nothing for the fleas in the environment and trust me they are there. I did not mention it before but you need to use the flee products I suggested for at least 3 or 4 months to make sure you get the entire flea cycle. Nothing will kill fleas when they are still in the egg so when they hatch you will have fleas all over again that is why it is so important to keep up with the flea preventative. Vacuum really well and throw the bag away outside immediately and wash the dogs bedding.

  • Frontline works.

Revolution is better but you can only get it from your vet and it's not for animals under six months.

  • Frontline is safest for your puppy, and it is applied to the skin, so he doesn't have to take medicine. Frontline is effective, you use it once a month. If you have a light infestation, meaning the fleas haven't been there very long, you can be rid of the fleas in about 3 months using just the frontline!

    Flea collars never work.

Most experts will tell you to vacuum everything in your house, sofas, curtains, carpet and rugs where fleas lay eggs, and throw out the vacuum bags. Also you can use a flea bomb in the house from a pet or hardware store.

    2 tips:
First, be sure to get the drops on the skin, so part the hair until you see skin, and drop the liquid on the skin in two places on your dog, the sholders, right at the base of the neck, where the collar sits and the top of the dogs rump, at the base of the dog's tail for full coverage.

Second, do not bathe or wet the dog for 2 days before and after using the frontline

  • Wash your dog with dawn dish soap, then add a little garlic to his drinking water (its a natural flea repellent). You could also spread table salt on your carpets and leave for at least overnight before vacuuming to kill them in the carpet.

  • Puppies and fleas - tips for your puppy :

You can use a baby shampoo ( Johnson and Johnson's ) - Get the later going and keep this on for at least 3 minutes.  Rinse well-- that will get ride of the current fleas.  NEXT - buy some Natural Spray - Many health stores make a Holistic Lemon Mix for pets -- Go to the local health or vitamin store and ask if they have a holistic pet section.
