Like a child I watch him, following
closely through his daily routine.
Admiring him quietly as his mind
is elsewhere.

I wonder if he can see the simplicity
behind my love.
Like a child, I stare with adoration
of the man in front of me.

Like a child I love him with infantile
compassion; innate and forever.
Like a child I traipse around him
happily; Feeling the warmth and love
when he kisses me.

Unlike a child, I feel arousal.

Like a child, I hang on his every word;
he is so kind, so wise, worthy of that
cliche pipe by the fire.

Like a child, I follow him to the door.
We say our goodbyes with displays of
teenage lust.

As he leaves, I notice the unmistakable
circular pattern of butterfly eggs, gently
blowing in the breeze.

Like a child, I drift my digits over them,
Marveling at their ocular reminiscence.

  • Like a child lost in thought, I press too hard!

Damaging the membranes, the insect children inside
    begin to die.

Like a child too far from home, I return to the
hem of the door frame, a wake of accidental
    death behind me.

I disappear inside, like a child with no cares.

    .The Door Shuts.

And I am forced to grow up.
No one is there to shield me from my adult

Like a child, like my childhood, I cease to be.

And become adult until he returns to me.

  • Unlike a child, I feel arousal.

thats the only part of the poem i dont think fits...everything else is "like a child"....and then the only "unlike" is about arousal....doesnt seem right to me....

  • The fact that I am still a woman and have sexual feelings for my man is why I included that snippet, to say basically,"though I love you unconditionally like a child, I still am a woman who loves to make love to you,"
