When is it safe to start using regular laundry detergent for kids?

I haven't really heard how long you are supposed to use "baby detergent" (Dreft, etc.). My daughter is 1 but has pretty sensitive skin - and I think it may be too young? Anyone have any advice? Thanks!!!!

  • My daughter has really sensitive skin, but we've used regular detergent (Tide Cold Water) from day one. We've never had a problem. My sisters have all done the same thing with no problems.

  • My daughters both had pretty sensitive skin. If you make sure you don't use too much, and make sure it is well rinsed, it usually doesn't hurt to use regular detergent.

  • I think she will be fine. Just don't use fabricsoftener. I started using regular laundry soap when my son was about 6 months old.

  • I've just always used the free and clear (no dye, no scent) detergent and fabric softener, since I have very sensitive skin myself. I never used that baby stuff.

  • Just add baking soda to the rinse water to get out whatever detergent is in there and it should be fine unless your little one is extra sensitive. Then just rinse twice. What type of bath soap do you use? That can aggravate little people too. We use generic baby shampoo for everything...

  • There is no time limit. Some kids do fine with regular soap from birth, some don't.

Wash a couple of items in with your clothes and try them out. Does she itch, have any redness, other other problems? No? Then she's good to go!

  • i have always used the same detergent for my childrens clothing as i did for mine...my babies were up against my clothing all the time, so it made no sense to me to wash their clothing in something different...

    peace...
