Why does caregiver and caretaker mean the same thing?

  • They don't in most instances. A caregiver is usually someone aiding an ill person or a small child. A Caretaker is someone who takes care of landscaping asuch as in cemeteries.

  • Caretakers could also be in charge of large building I guess. My friend Robin just IM'd me to say in the UK a caretakers is someone who runs an estate.
