  • It heats to high degrees..far higher thasn cooking. It literally burns off the gunk. Some self-cleaning ovens are imbedded with a chemical to speed the process. If you have one remember to remove your racks before using the self cleaninf feature . It will eat the shiny chrome like finish right off them.

  • You need to do it on a day when you can open your windows because, wow , it smells bad! its burning all the grease and stuff up into ash at like 800 degrees. Also you should remove the racks (someone already told you that) and wipe it out with a rag and plain water before you start. dont use any kind of chemicals. once you start the cycle the oven locks itself and does not let you open the door again for a few hours (to avoid any possibilty of you getting burned). After it lets you open it, you just wipe out the ash that is left behind. all done!
