Gluten Free and/or Dairy Free Desserts for Thanksgiving?

My BIL is on a gluten free diet and my SIL can't eat dairy, so what the heck do I make for dessert on Thanksgiving that they can eat??? Anyone have any recipes they can share?

  • Go to any nicer grocery store and they will have a GF section. There are now lots of GF/DF cake mixes, icings, pie crust mixes on the market that are really good. If you are wanting something homeade, you could get the mis for the GF pie crust then make your own pie filling. Pecan pie would be a good one if you sub out earth balance spread for real butter. Same goes for apple pie - just don't put a pat of butter in your apples. Here is a really good flourless chocolate cake recipe - Just sub the butter for earth balance, and the tablespoon of milk can be subbed for water. :) This is a REALLY good recipe.

  • Oh... the betty crocker gluten free chocolate cake mix is really really good. You could make a buttercream frosting out of 1lb of powdered sugar (look for the GF banner on it - most have it), 1 cup of crisco, 2 TBSP of water, and butter flavoring.
