  • Damn, you people buy some big turkeys! I'd figure 3/4 lb raw for every person. Then I wouldn't have to try to find crap to do with the leftovers.

  • I've heard that you should assume 1 1/2 pounds of turkey per person. So that means 12 to 15 pounds minimum.

  • I would get 20 pounds. You want leftovers.

  • I read to figure 1 pound per person, if you want plenty of leftovers do 1.5 pounds per person. That being said, I'm having 6 for Thanksgiving, 2 are kids and I got a 15 lb turkey ;) But we love the leftovers as much as the dinner...

  • 15 lb minimum, larger if you want leftovers. After a turkey get to about 12 lbs, it' bones don't get any bigger, it just puts on meat. So if you're paying say 59 cents a lb, which is what I just paid, then you're getting anything over 12 lbs is pure meat. Pretty good deal-turkey meat for 59 cents a lb. I buy the largest I can find, about 23 lbs, and have lots of leftover to freeze for future meals.

  • Personally, if depends on the people. Most people suggest 1-2 pounds per person, but I like a lot of leftovers, so I typically figure on 2 to 2 1/2 pounds per person.

  • People figure 1 1/2 pounds per person? Holy cow. I realize there are bones in the turkey but we still always figured under a pound per person. Most in my family only eat 3-4 ounces of meat at a meal so we usually still have a leftovers.   I am amazed at how much some eat.
