How much do you spend per child for Christmas? I have friends that spend from 100.00 to 90o.00 per child. What is your opinion

We are still playing catch up since my husband has been laid off. We will be spending about a hundred each and for my 12 year old probably 200 since his items are more expensive. We may not even have enough for that. My very dear friends said she spends minimum 350 per child and when they are doing well will spend 550 per child. I was shocked to hear it especially because they are hurting just as much as we are. What is your opinion?

  • I never set a budget.. I just go pick up the things they want and as long as they have the same amount of gifts, thats all that matters.. I generally spend about $300 on them together. I have two little girls.

  • Well, we're getting my 15 year old a $1,300.00 lap top. We spend a different amount on each kid, As long as it looks like the same amount of stuff. I always end up spending way too much at the end.

  • It will be around 200 for all three of mine. I spend whatever I can afford. I don't see going into debt for Christmas. It doesn't make sense.

  • Depends how much we have in the 'Christmas fund' that year. This year they're getting a little more because we can afford it. Last year they didn't get as much because only one of us was working at the time. So probably $300-400 each this year.

  • With stockings, etc. it probably ends up around $200/kid, but we have 5 kids so it definitely adds up! (although my youngest is only 4 months old, she's only getting a couple things)

  • I set my budget based on what we can afford to spend that year. If someone can afford to spend over a thousand, that's fine, if they can afford $50 per child that's fine. I do try to be even in the amount I spend for each child.

  • right now it looks like $150 each for the older two, $100 each for the younger three, including stockings. we don't buy toys for them very often so we go as big as we can afford for christmas. the amounts might have to go down some but they is what we are trying for
