ribs in the crockpot?

i love my crockpot and i have a package of ribs in the freezer that i have no idea how to cook. im not a fan really except when my dad makes them but he uses the grill and that i do not have. i would obviously have to cut them in half cause it's too long to fit in it otherwise, and probably layer them one on top of the other.

my question is, what seasonings do i use and any other liquids besides bbq sauce, like beef broth or something? how long should they cook for?

  • Are they beef ribs or pork? Instead of the crock pot, unthaw and season on both sides, put in oven on250 for about 4 hours, it sounds like you have a slab of ribs, put the fat side up so it keeps the meat moist, sometimes a slab of ribs wll not have much meat left in the crock pot, unless it is pork ribs then go ahead and crock away,, I always put a bit of liquid smoke in mine!

  • CROCK POT BRAISED SHORT RIBS  


    4 lb. beef short ribs
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. pepper
    1 c. flour
    2 med. onions, sliced
    3 tbsp. oil
    1 1/2 c. liquid (water, broth or BBQ sauce)




    Dredge ribs in flour, salt and pepper. Brown well. Layer onions, ribs and liquid. Cook on low 8-10 hours or high 4-6 hours.

  • when i make ribs i either do it dry (just season the ribs with salt/pepper and put in a onion cut in 1/4) and put them in the crockpot on low for maybe 6 hours and they come out very nice. when i make short ribs i use the crockpot to braise them in bbq sauce. either way they come out nice, but if you do it with the bbq sauce you can't really eat the sauce without straining off all that fat. when you do it dry you just add the sauce at the end when you're serving it.
