Boy or girl?

Is it really all on the male genes whether you have boy or girl?? it's been a long time since I was in science class and I don't remember. A friend told me my genes have nothing to do with it, like what my mother had for children and her mother and my dad's side ect..

  • yes it is up to the male b/c they produce male and female sperm...meaning you have 2 x chromosomes (xx) and the man has an xand a y (xy)..So if the sperm he has with xx chromosomes fertalizes the egg with xx chromosomes then you'll have a girl, now if the male sperm with xy chromosomes fertalizes the egg then it will be a boy
