But the Republicans have our best interest in mind, right?

Can somebody PLEASE explain to me why Republicans would vote against this, except for the fact that "the enemy" proposed it? Why are they not "the party of no" again?

  • Unfortunately, there are plenty of people in this country who believe that men command/deserve a larger salary, and some who strongly believe that a  woman's REAL place is in the home.

  • from reading further in your own source....
“The paycheck fairness act is understandably attempting to address an issue, [but] it can already be addressed through existing legislation,” Snowe said.

She said a person can already file a lawsuit under the Equal Pay Act, the Civil Rights Act and the Ledbetter Act that took effect earlier this year.

Like Snowe, Republican Sen. Susan Collins voted for the Ledbetter Act but does not believe additional legislation is needed for women to achieve pay fairness.

  • Didn't the Ledbetter Act just take effect earlier this year? How about we let the paint dry on that one before we enact more legislation?
