How can I disinfect shoes?

I bought a few pairs of shoes for my son at a second hand store and I also got a few cute ones from freecycle. What can I do to santize the insides of these shoes? I know bowling alleys used some sort of spray but not sure what kind. Thanks!

  • I'm not sure.. did you wash them or can they not be washed? I know that baby powder does nicely in making them smell better.

  • most shoes I know can't be washed like the dress shoes for me and dress shoes for him. There is one pair of sneakers but they have those lights that light up when he walks, can they be washed?

  • Spray the inside of the shoes with a lemon/water solution, or vinegar solution. I'd recommend bleaching, but that would probably ruin the shoes. GL!
