Over react much?

Ok so I am on FB and a friend of mine posted that she too had watched the Charlie Brown Special on tv last nigh. She made a comment on never noticing as a kid, but what orientation is Peppermint Patty. We were laughing and a member of her family went off about how homophobia is not politically correct especially in their family.
Jeeze lady. No one was gay bashing! No one mentioned anything hateful or even midly disrespectful. We have a gay member of our family...and he is the best at laughing about this sort of thing.
So were we insensitive (even though we did not mean to be)? Or did she freak for nothing?

  • I'm always fascinated by behaviour like that: what exactly was so terrible about noticing that Peppermint Patty seemed to fit a lot of stereotypes? We're not allowed to notice that there are stereotypes, or we're not allowed to notice that they are sometimes accurate?

I had to read your question twice before I could even figure out what she freaked out about, it made so little sense to me. She must be a bucket of laughs at parties...

  • Freaked for nothing. You are clearly open minded family members who were just having a laugh at the cartoon. This person probably had a bad day and it just hit her wrong at that moment. It wasn't directed at her, or to hurt anyone.

  • She freaked over nothing. We all suspected Peppermint Patty was a Lesbian. :-) Don't worry about it.

  • I think people are just too touchy on this kind of issue and she read more into your comments than you intended.

  • I think some people just jump into things asking for drama. Sounds like she is one of them.

  • I don't know, she may be having some issues or something, but I always just though Peppermint Patty was a Tomboy cause she likes Charlie Brown doesn't she?
