  • How old are the kids? I was going to suggest Toy Story, they are AWESOME but since you are not a Disney fan. I have to think...

  • Mirrormask, if they're old enough to enjoy seriously weird, slightly disturbing goth stuff... Labyrinth for the same reason.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is great, although quite different from the books.

Penelope is a fun off-beat fairy tale, and so is Nanny McPhee --not at all Disneyesque. Ignoring that it is Disney, the whole Pirates series is good. Ever After is funny, with the plus of Cinderella rescuing herself pretty much continuously. The Princess Bride is a great movie with some hilarious lines that you can use in everyday life (don't bother him, he's been mostly dead all day...)

Galaxy Quest is hilarious for anyone who's seen most of the original Star Trek series.

Everyone in our house loved the Redwall series, and the BBC puppet-animated Wind in the Willows which is sweet. Oh, and the BBC Narnia series, too. The Secret of NIHM is a daring adventure, and Thumbelina is good (Don Bluth, not Disney).

  • they're 9,5,3... lately we've been on an 80's kick. The LOVED ghost busters, ladyhawk, flight of the navigator, the secret of nihm, ferris buellers day off, uncle buck, and several others... they also loved avatar, and tend to watch more live action than animation.
