Since everybody tries to come up with unique names ... Do you think one day the world will be full of fancy names and people will go back to calling their kids John and Rose and Philip and Mathilda?

Yeah, I'm a a fan of old fashioned names. lol (Which makes me think of another question ... wait ...)

  • Yes, they do seem to cycle that way ... and I am so hoping that this new desire to be "unique" (when so many are doing the same, which means it's NOT unique, it's trendy) passes quickly!

  • I most certainly hope so!

  • Yeah, the new trend is to not be trendy. lol. go figure.

  • Probably. lol. We names out son Carl and our Daughter Quinn. Totally 'normal' yet off beat from the recent popular names!

  • I don't think Mathilda was ever popular! lol

But, overall I don't think those "old fashioned" names will ever really be out of fashion. There is always going to be 10 Johns in every class & 20 Jenns, that's just how it works.

Answer by SabrinaMBowen at 3:21 PM on Nov. 19, 2010

  • Honestly, I think that's already happening. I think the "old fashioned" names (and I'm a fan too, btw) are already making a come back, and I'm happy about it. I mean, Pilot Inspektor/Kal El/Apple/Rose Blossom/*insert stupid name here*, really???

Answer by Anouck at 3:21 PM on Nov. 19, 2010

  • Haha, probably. Things seem to go in cycles. Look at Sofia and Isabelle...they're 'older' names and quite popular on the list of names at the Social Security website.
