Have you heard about these millionaires?

Anti-tax activists everywhere have been loudly arguing for an extension of George W. Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans in the United States. Now a group of millionaires is arguing the opposite.

More than 40 of the nation's millionaires have joined Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength to ask President Obama to discontinue the tax breaks established for them during the Bush administration, as Salon reports.

"For the fiscal health of our nation and the well-being of our fellow citizens, we ask that you allow tax cuts on incomes over $1,000,000 to expire at the end of this year as scheduled," their website states. "We make this request as loyal citizens who now or in the past earned an income of $1,000,000 per year or more."

  • No one is forcing any of them to take or use the cuts. If they are so worried about it then they can just give their money to the government to cut the deficit. Better yet, how about hiring some people.....

  • If they want to give more of their fortune to the government, why don't they do it without having the government mandate that they do so? I am sure they would be willing to take donations.

  • Since the Bush tax cuts were "only for the wealthy" why do we have all this talk of continuing the middle class cuts?

I disagree with the 40 millionaires. If they want to doante to the government, let them do it.

And don't kid yourself, the wealthy are not concerned, they have excellent accountants and will continue to loophole thier way out of paying taxes...

That doesn't make for a very strong argument in favor of extending the tax-cuts for the very wealthy--if they will find a way out of paying taxes anyway, at least let their accountants earn some money helping them find those loopholes.  Why have the government take away that bit work by just giving them the tax breaks?

  • I wonder how many of those millionaires are DEMOCRATIC supporters?! I guess once you're in "the club" having made your fortunes and are sitting pretty, it's okay to not need those tax breaks anymore...you know like every single DEMOCRATIC member of Congress who votes FOR tax increases, since they are the masters of not paying them, not having a high taxable income, or finding loopholes to hide their riches.

  • No millionaires need the tax break, good point lori. It doesn't create jobs it just sits around doing nobody any good.
