  • Progesterone is a muscle relaxant. It works on the bowels as well as the uterus.

  • During your period, the uterus expels a hormone called prostaglandins. These prostaglandins are what actually causes the expelling of the lining. Sometimes these prostaglandins are released into the digestive tract as well, that is what causes the diarrhea.

  • when I start my period I have to go to the bathroom to at least a couple times per day I think its from all the pressure you have down their. and the first day alway's seems to be the hardest......

  • Extra progesterone and prostiglandins are valid reasons for it.

However if it's the type of diarrhea that keeps you at home, then you have a more serious problem. Endometriosis and PCOS can both cause diarrhea with your period. Also, having a severely retroverted uterus can cause it as well.
