  • Umm, ew!'s wrong....whether society has made it that or whether it truly is wrong in the eyes of god (which I believe)...the earth needed to be populated, and if Adam and eve were the only ones on earth then it kind of had to happen that way...just my opinion.

  • Well, inbreed children can and do have mental and physical disabilities. Besides the fact that it just isn't right, that is a major reason it is looked down upon! But "back in the day" there was really no choice. Jus like with Noah and the ark. There were only so many people, so they had to repopulate somehow!

  • Back in the day that's how it happened even if you take Adam and Eve out of the equation, I'm sure there were a lot of children produced from close family members during prehistoric times, this is how the human population started.  We have a large gene pool now so it's not necessary, also we understand how genetics works now.

  • the gene pool was cleaner "back in the day". we've done lots of things to make it as tar black as it is today. lol can i ask what prompted this question??

  • I don't believe the creation story or the story of Adam/Eve/Cain/Abel is a literal, actual happening. I believe it is meant to introduce us into the Divine context, to explain the way the world is and the "human condition", as well as some other things. Not all Christians are creationists who believe Adam and Eve really where the first people on earth.... Many Christians do accept the theory of evolution... ;)

  • The Israelites spent a lot of time as slaves under the Egyptians. Egyptians also have the brother-sister marriage thing going on--but only for pharoahs or gods. So, if you are a scribe who has written a piece of creation FICTION and you've written yourself into a corner by populating the earth with only one couple, you just borrow from the Egyptians and arrange marriages between brothers and sisters. Problem solved. Except that it is not only repugnant to modern sensibilities, but it is a genetic time bomb that causes mental and physical deformities. Even in the animal kingdom. It is a myth, a fable, a fairytale. And absolutely nothing to get your panties in a wad over. Never happened. And really never should.

  • I don't believe that Adam and Eve were the first people created,or the only humans around at that time.Genesis clearly states that humans were created before Adam and Eve.Adam was formed AFTER the 7th day when God rested. The others were created on the 6th day.Adam and Eve were a very special creation.
