At what age do you think a girl can start babysitting?

I realize levels of maturity are different from child to child, so yes, that is a factor.
And it probably also depends on the age/ages of the child/children being cared for....

your thoughts...?

  • I was babysitting full time a chld of 1 when I was 12. FAR too early looking back (and certainly contributed to my late venture into motherhood!). But for the occassional evening, I feel it's ok to start around 12, as long as both sets of parents (the babysitter's and the child's) are only a phone call away!

  • I started baby sitting when I was 13 but I was a mature and responsible kid. It really depends.. I have 2 nieces who are 14 and 16. The 14-tr-old babysits my 5-yr-old all the time. There is no way I would leave my daughter with the 16-yr-old because she's just not responsible enough!

  • You're right, there are several factors that I'd put thought into. I think generally speaking though that 14 is about right.
