1 Bump

Did your little one wean themself off of anything? (breastfeeding, binky, bottle, etc.)

I feel really lucky; my DD weaned herself off of breastfeeding when she was 11 months, & the binky shortly after she turned 2. I was just wondering if this was fairly normal, or if I'm just super lucky not to have to deal with the crying!

  • my youngest no. She was on the binki until just over 2 and I took it away from her then the bottle I had to take her off and she wouldn't until she was 15 months old. My oldest however took a binki only until she was 2 weeks old then she didn't want it anymore. The bottle she took herself off at 9 months. My DD has always been like that though. She learned how to tie her shoe she learned in 1 day she was 4 and a half. A week later she learned to ride her bike by herself. She broker her training wheel so I had to take it off. She was outside at 10am trying to rid her bike when I offered to help her she said no I can do it. Then by 7pm the same day she was riding her bike on her own. I didn't teach her she learned in one day. She potty trained in 1 month by 19 months old. She has always been like that

  • My son weaned himself off of the pacifier when he was about 9 mos. I still breastfeed, which I don't mind.

  • DD (now 4) weaned herself from the paci around 6 months, and from breast feeding around 17 months. I honestly think she did both because she knew that more often than not, she went to sleep with both. She was never a big sleeper as a baby.

  • Yep! At about 7 months old he all of a sudden wanted nothing to do with his pacifier. I always thought it would be hard to wean him from it, but nope! :)

  • My son also weaned himself from his pacifier at 8 months. Breastfeeding and bottles were a little harder though.

  • My son weened off his pacifier at 6 months, breastfeeding at 11 months, and prefers big boy cups to bottles. I think most kids generally know when they are done. Some sooner than others.
