I do alot of Laundry. Has anyone thought about making their own laundry detergent to help lower expenses? Success?

If so, do you have a recipe to share?

  • You can use vinegar and that's pretty cheap.

  • that's all I use! I got the recipe off the Duggar website. Go to their "recipes" and I think it's the 3rd one down. Only change made was replacing borax with baking soda. And you can make your own washing soda. pour the amt needed onto a baking sheet, put in a preheated 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Just be careful not to breathe it in! You'll sneeze for a week. I made about 5 lbs worth and you really only need about 1/2 a cup with 1/2 cup of water for a full load. I always rinse twice and sometimes I add some vinegar in the rinse cycle to soften everything. I air dry weather permitting and stick everything in the fluff cycle

  • How much can it save?
I saw an article that said that we use too much detergent in our laundry and it makes almost no difference to not use it at all.
