How do you deal with missing your own family during the holidays?

My parents both live out of town, and my brothers are with my mom. I have spent the last 8 years of holidays with my dhs family. We have our own traditions and special things we do, I am just REALLY missing my family this year.

  • The holidays are not good times. I miss my children who have passed.

  • Holidays are hard now. I miss my husband terribly, and my children miss their father. And it seems so huge. This will be our first Christmas without him. I'm so thankful for my widowed friends here, who understand what this is like.
My out of town family? I miss not being able to spend time with them but we can send cards and email and talk on the phone - that level of "missing" pales in comparison.
