if something says to use vanilla extract can I use vanilla imitation? Is it the same thing?

  • Yes, it is basically the same thing. Some people will say its not as good but real vanilla is expensive & for most purposes the imitation one is just fine.

  • Not the same; It's like the difference between 100% juice and juice cocktail. Both will taste the same in baking, though.

  • It measures the same. Honestly, pure vanilla extract has a little bit stronger flavor (even when cooked), but that is the only difference I know of.

  • Yes and no. Yes you can use it, no it is not really the same thing, but won't make a bit of difference in what you are cooking, for the most part.
