  • For what?

Desserts are as much a part of a meal as anything else... so it depends on everything else being served as much as it depends on what is fresh, what season it is and what you like to eat.

As a cook, I always recommend cooking and serving according to your own taste: if you don't like something, you'll have no way of finding out if it's made right without using your guests as tasters, which has nowhere good to go. If you do like something, you'll serve it with gusto and others may enjoy it from your enthusiasm, even when they wouldn't necessarily have ordered it in a restaurant if they had a chance.

  • Like passed desserts at a champagne reception? I would say chocolate covered strawberries, mini-macaroons, brownie bites, mini cupcakes.

I like chocolate fountains or fondue depending on the number of guests with pound cake, cheesecake, brownies, biscotti, pretzel rods and various fruit for dipping
