  • So you mean why do they think that divorce is wrong? Or why do they have differing opinions on divorce? Because as far as I know they all thought that marriage was a covenant made before God and was not to be broken except in the case of adultery.

  • It has to do with Covenant. If you have an understanding of Covenant Marriages, it helps to understand why divorce is something God never wanted.
We know that in the NT the only reason there is to be divorce is in the case of Adultery... why is that?
When a man and a woman become ONE... it is a SPIRITUAL thing but when a man or a woman go out and commit adultery they become ONE with that person also.. now you have a mixture of one person having two connections within them and having relations with their wife.. guess what ... the wife is really having relations with the MAN and the woman he committed adultery with... God gave the woman or the man the permission to end the marriage because covenant was broken the day the man or the woman committed adultery and become one with that person.
God created marriage between a male and female for life for a reason. This is the best way I can explain this without writing a book!

  • Because they were all misogynistic Jews who wanted to keep women at the bottom of the totem pole. The bible teaches that a man may sell his daughter into slavery (Ex. 21:7), sacrifice her virginity to a mob of perverts (Judg. 19:24), that he may murder her on his own doorstep and STILL be a good father and a holy man. It teaches that he may have as many wives as he wishes, he can sell them, give them away, switch them around and still be a good husband and a righteous man, as well as one of god's most intimate friends. How women can look at this face of their god in their own bible and still believe in this warped religion literally boggles my mind!!

  • There are differences of opinions all throughout the Bible. I think this is to mean that there are more than one right answers. Yes, God hates divorce, but there are times when it is a "necessary evil" to end a cheating spouse or abusive spouse. God hates that also and would not want us to have no way to get out of a dangerous situation. I don't believe that God holds the "wrong" of divorce on the "victim" of abuse or cheating but on the one who did the abuse or the cheating. So God hates it but will and does forgive someone who decides it would be better for her and her children to leave the cheater/abuser if she so chooses. There are differences of opinion in the Bible to show various ways/reasons for thoughts and behaviors/situations to fit nearly every scenario.

  • I like what Jesus did, he made clear what divorce should concern but He emphasizes the original marriage principles.
