if i name my daughter Karis or Calista do u think i will have probs with nick names Kari and Caylee?

I dislike the nick name Kari for Karis

and I HATE Caylee period. I can stand Callie like short for california but not caylee i also like kelise as a nice name or lissy better.

I prefer both names that my child just get called there full name i mean they arent that long some people are just lazy

I hate that people call my daughter izzy from time to time her name is izabella i usually call her izabel or izabella.

how big of a prob do u think i will have with these nick names

  • I don't see that as being a prob with Karis since it's already short, there's really no need for someone to give her a nickname. As far as Calista, I could see them calling her Cali, not Caylee though, that's too far from the original.

  • I really don't see anybody shortening Karis. What would be the point? Karis and Kari have the same number of syllables. And I really don't see how the everyday person is going to get Caylee out of Calista.

  • I have an Annabelle and that is what we call her, Annabelle....she won't really answer to anything else. We were worried about naming her this at first because we don't particularly care for Anna or Belle and didn't want her to be called that. When she was first born people asked what they should call her and we just said Annabelle and nobody has called her something else yet. However, she is only 4....this might be more of an issue as she gets a little older and has more friends. Right now she really loves her name and if she keeps that up people will only be calling her Annabelle (she doesn't even like being called the little pet names I have for her).

All that to say, I think that if you politely tell people that you would prefer they use her whole name people will understand :)

  • I doubt anyone would use Caylee as a nickname for Calista. They might call her Cali or Lissi or something like that.

  • Yeah just correct people if it annoys you really badly. My son is named Christian and I really don't want him ever called Chris. I'm hoping it does not happen LOL My daughter is Ella and some people call her Ellie which when I was pregnant said I would hate that but I dont really care now.

  • I never even thought to shorted Karis. I can see Caylee being an issue though.

  • yeah good points everyone. I personally have just experienced issues with nick names. My name is samantha and when i introduce myself i say hello my name is samantha and when people ask what i liked being called i tell them samantha but i all the time get called sam. occasionally sammie, between the two i prefer sammie but i really wish people would just say samantha its only three syllables people lol

  • If you don't use a nickname for her, most people will call her by whatever you call her. And as she gets older, she can tell people herself what she wants to be called. I don't see why anyone would want to shorten Karis to Kari because Karis is already short enough. And I don't see how anyone would get Caylee out of Calista. I instantely think of the nickname Cale or Cali when I see Calista.

  • YOu don;t have to have a nickname. Period. lol. I had to stop my mother from calling my son Carl, Carly. I was like 'UH! Mom! That is not his name! Besides Carly is a GIRLS name!' SO you just have to put your foot down.
