question for/about photographers

If you are just a normal mom who likes to take pictures and would like them to have a professional name on them, can you choose whatever name you want or do you need a liscense/ permission for that name? thanks :)

  • You can choose any name you want, but if you are selling anything make sure to do a copyright search first. It's really easy - go to the Copyright Office website and do a search for the name you want to use. If it is already taken, you can read more on the website about your options (use it or not, old/dead copyrights, etc).

If you want to keep anyone else from using the name, you will have to apply for a copyright.
