Irritate my membranes

My dr told me that this friday my 38 week visit that he would irritate my membranes...what does this mean ...

  • They probably meant strip your membranes and means to seperate the amniotic sac from the wall by sweeping the membranes.

  • basically that he is going to slightly scrape your "sack" of water with like a q-tip or something, it can stimulate labor in a more natural way.

  • Nothing good. At 38 weeks, there's no point in rushing labor. There's no point in rushing it at all unless you see real reason too. Tell him to keep his tools to himself and that baby will come out on it's own when it's ready.

  • Stripping the membranes has not been proven to truly expidite anything. What we do know is it can increase risk of infection. I would not allow it at 38 weeks. I would discouraged it at 40.

  • well I went in for weekly visit my throat hurt before i went in and now my cervix is still closed but i was measuring a week ahead
