how do you become a foster parent?

we have a 2 year old but hope to possibly adopt from the foster system... i was wondering how you go about becoming a foster parent... how much does it cost to become a foster parent? any info is helpful... sorry i was not sure where to post this

  • I was a foster parent for two years in Alaska. Each state has their own laws, but it does not cost to become a foster parent, or at least it didn't. You have to go through training that they provide, get finger printed(I think they paid for that as well), and have your home inspected. To start with call your local division of Family and Youth services or welfare office. They will be able to tell you what you need to do from that point. It took us from 1 - 2 months to complete our training and get all the paperwork done. Doing foster care is a lot of hard work, but it gives you the best chance of adopting a young child.
