11 Bumps

Is anyone else sick of being lumped into the "white" category?

To be politically correct, I'd heretofor like to be referred to as German-Irish-American. Thanks!

  • YES. It drives me nuts. I'm Italian-American but honestly I think we should all just be "Americans" instead of lumping us into a million different groups. The same people complaining about racism are encouraging it.

When I filled out our Census 2010 form I checked "other" and wrote in "American"

  • I'm just tired of the idea that anything can be known about people because the depth of colour of their skin is known.

It is as ridiculous as knowing something about people based on the shape of their fingernail beds.

  • I'm with you! I don't like race or ethnicity being a required input on forms.

  • Considering that I'm french-german-english-irish-swedish, I think I'd rather just be called white. What's wrong with that? I'm as white as white gets, no way around it.

  • I agree, you can be all kinds of things in our area but no matter what heritage you have if you are white you mark "white/not latino". Really, why can't I even just be white? Why do you have to dub me "not latino"? Good grief.
