Is this overkill?

I'm taking a cheap brand 1 a day prenatal (spring valley) w/breakfast and Geritol complete multivitamin w/dinner everyday. Just trying to give me body an extra boost! I was wondering if anyone out there knows if this is just too much of a good thing?

  • One vitamin per day is more than enough. You won't absorb the extra vitamins, your body gets rid of them through your waste.

  • Or turn it green. But keep with the healthy diet and take the one vitamin at the beginning of the day so you get more from from it. Good luck!

  • Oh, but if you don't get a lot of omegas in your normal diet - fish, nuts, etc - then take a fish oil/omega supplement. I know several people (including myself) whom it has helped to get pregnant and sustain that pregnancy.

  • It may not be overkill.... but it may very well be overdose.

There are a number of trace minerals and fat soluble vitamins that are easily overdosed, and those have a variety of short and longterm health effects. Overdosing on iron damages brain and kidneys, overdosing on vitamin A damages liver... copper is toxic in anything but the very tiny trace amounts we need, overdosing vitamin C depletes B vitamins.

  • Stick with the prenatal because most normal multis don't have an adequate amount of folic acid.

  • if you are ttc the prenatal will be better.
