membrane sweeping

I had my 39 week appt today and they swept the membranes! She said there would be some light spotting but my pad has alot more than light spotting on it. Its been 4 hours since and Im not sure if there should be this much blood and dont wanna call L&D in case this is normal. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

  • I've never heard of membrane sweeping so I don't know.

  • I'd call my Dr. and let them know what kind of quantities of blood we're talking about. You're this far along, so your Doctor is expecting you to call when things like this are on your mind... Good Luck!

  • How much blood are you having? Like, period blood?
Unfortunaly, there are risks associated with membrane sweeps. Hopefully, everything will be fine, but you should call in. Good luck!

  • I had my membranes swept with my third child with the hopes of inducing labor ...Boy was that an uncomfortable experience. anyways, It did work ! Six hours later i started having contractions . Two hours prior to starting labor i started bleeding also. I would say call LD and let them know, just to be safe....At any rate congratulations ! Have a happy labor and delivery !

  • I would definitely call... when the doctor says spotting, they mean spotting. i've never personally heard of anybody bleeding that much after a sweep GL
