Is this horrible?

I never ask my child what they want for Christmas or his birthday - mainly because I know it will be the cheap crap he sees in commercials on TV or overpriced electronics I don't want him to have anyway. I just buy him what I know he will like. So far he has liked everything I've gotten him. Is this horrible to do?

  • Why would that be horrible? I've never asked my kids, and they've never told me... I just buy them what I think they would like... They are always happy...

  • I do pretty much the same thing. I try to buy stuff for my kids that I know they'll use for more than 2 days.

  • Nope. I ask my kids and then buy what I think they actually need.

  • depends how old?
As they get older that will not work, they should have some say what will be in their room, wear or play with.

My brother kids only got gifts the parents wanted to buy and they so not have happy memories. They where and still are cheap. I think that is sad.

If you don't have the money than you put the toy on layaway, (many stores have layaway now) you can buy one good gift.
It is better than wasting money on cheap Sh&T.

Kids do not need 100-toys, only the one they are dreaming about!

  • If I bought my kids what they think they want, they would be pissed after it broke an hour after they opened it. I buy them things I know they will use for a long time. So far, no problems, and they haven't complained that they didn't get what they asked for.
