Dog mirochip question.. please help!

Our puggle went missing two days ago.. he is microchipped and registered on 24 hour pet watch.. and we've called everyday and no one has called him in that he was found.. and they also scanned the shelters and said that his chip number was showing he is not at any of the shelters... is there ANY way that he COULD possibly be at our local shelter even though they keep saying he's not? Ifeel like we should check anyway.. or should we just not go through the heart ache of see'ing all those dogs? there is a ONE hour span that you can come check and we havent been able to make it yet... the first day didnt have one, the second day they were closed on thanksgiving, and we missed it today somehow. thanks ladies!

  • Micro chips are a great way to get a dog back, but they can fail. Anything can fail. Go look for your dog. And put up signs in the neighborhood and at the grocery store -- target, walmart, and the busy places.

  • The scanning process is pretty accurate. Your best bet it to post posters in your neighborhood and actual canvas about one or two miles worth of houses and shops in your neighborhood. Good luck...I know how heart breaking this is.

  • Microchips can migrate as well. I'd still be checking everyday at your local shelter.

Microchips can move down to the shoulders (which is why I mentioned the migrating)

  • You should definantly go look every so often the microchip will stop working. My 8 year old dog was Microchipped about 7 years ago and recently we discovered that it no longer registered on the scanner. They ended up remicrochipping her for free. The vet scanned her entire boddy several times with 2 differant scanners. Good luck

  • No, if he was at the shelter, they would find him with the scanner. If someone took him to the vet they would have to admit to "finding" the dog, for him to be scanned there.

I would put posters in ALL the vet offices and pet stores around your town. Especially alert all the vets to the age and appearance of this missing dog. Unfortunately, puggles are a popular mixed breed right now.

  • I would hope someone didnt keep him and not report him.. he has his tags, his name tag, he is even wearing a coach collar for goodness sakes.. he is clearly someones pet!.. we live in a VERY small town.. and i figured if he got hit someone would have seen him by now.. i am thinking someone has him.. hope we find him! thanks!
