  • We have always used artificial trees. If I had a real tree I would buy one alive in a pot and plant it outside, I can't justify killing a tree for some lights and ornaments

  • We have never cut down our own tree and I'd love to do it. If it in fact stays fresh longer, then that would be a selling point for my husband. He hates how they die before Christmas and shed all over.

  • I prefer to cut one down. They last longer.

  • I love going to a tree farm and cutting one down, but I don't have a way to get it home. I've used artificial for the past 9 years, but this year I have plans of getting a tree that's been wrapped so I can shove it in my trunk (hopefully). I love the scent of a real tree.

  • Way back when I had real trees we would always buy it off the lot. We did not know of any tree farms close by, and with Wisconsin weather.... I never cared to be outside that long to find the 'perfect' tree. For the past 16 years hubs and I have been using artificial trees instead of real ones. I miss the 'tree smell' but not all the shedding needles and I do not miss the hives and allergies I get with real trees.

  • We loves cutting down our own. We got ours the day before Thanksgiving.

Answer by Melbornj at 1:18 PM on Nov. 27, 2010

  • I've done both. Now I bought a very pretty artificial tree with lights already on it. I love it. It's up in a flash and I don't have to worry about needles all over the place, a fire hazard or keeping water in the bottom, not to mention allergies.
