What is a good alcoholic drink for the holidays that won't pack on the pounds?

And please don't say light beer. I only drink beer during football games. :)

  • I like grey goose or belvedere (if you're looking to skip calories go with belv) and pineapple/orange juice with a splash of grenadine on top.

  • Light beer is revolting... it's like eating light chocolate or having light sex. I mean, what's the point?

Spritzers are festive ('cause they're bubbly) and lower calorie than other drinks just because they're 3/4 carbonated water rather than 100% boozy drink. You can make them with just white wine and CO2 water, or you can make them like mimosa or sangria with fruit juices and the water --lighter than regular mimosa and sangria because they're watered down more, and bubbly for fun.

Tomato juice-based drinks are lower in calories --and higher in nutrients-- than things made with cream, coconut milk or calorie killers like bailey's. Use half the booze for even fewer calories.

Alcohol is part of the calorie problem with drinking, so drinking single-shot highballs in tall glasses will eliminate 1/2 the alcohol from your sipping... but the pop is a problem (whether it's diet or regular) and making it a tall adds more mix.

  • My twig-like girlfriend only drinks vodka with diet cranberry. She loves the taste and carb and calorie count is greatly reduced. Avoid juices like pineapple, orange and apple..the are sugar packed empty calories and high carb. If you want soda use diet. Most diet sodas are no calorie or less than 10 anyway. Regular spirits like vodka, rum and whiskey have no carbohydrates and obviously contain calories. Wine has both. BAvoid beer and champagne..they just add bloat.
