What is the same and what is the difference between ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome?

I would idealy love a chart that lays this out clearly. We have both in our nuclear family. I have read a lotof literature on both adults and children, I know that they are similar but would like a more concrete reference. Does anyone have one to share, even a reference to one, if not a summary of your thoughts will be helpful too. Thank you :)

  • Here is a link to the diagnostic criteria for Asperger's.

There are things that are simiar such as lack of general focus, lack of organization of physical items as well as thoughts there are other possible parallels but since ASperger's is not a cookie cutter disorder it can be hard to point them out.

The major differences is that Asperger's children have lack of or inappropritate social skills.  The way this manifest varies from child to child.  Most common is lack of eye contact.

  • But Mommie said it very well. Social skills are what differentiate kids on the autism spectrum vs. those that are not. (generally speaking). Psychologists can sometimes have a hard time distinguishing between the two when children are very young, and many will recommend having a child diagnosed with one or the other re-assessed several times throughout childhood.
