Are you expected to be friends with your SIL or your brother's S/O?

I will talk to them at events, I just got back from my SIL baby shower. But I don't think about talking to her any other time. It is the same with my other brother's and their S/Os. I will talk to them at Christmas when they come around, but it probably has been a year since i have seen or spoken to my oldest brothers S/O. I don't not like her, I just never think about them.

  • I don't like either of my SIL's. One is a slut and the other one is a Jesus freak and 12 years my junior. We have nothing in common

  • Friends? No, but it's certainly important to my husband that I get along well with his sister & brothers. I put forth the extra effort to be friendly with his sister I guess. She's ok and it makes my husband happy.

  • I try to get along with my sister in law. I had 2, but I lost one back in April to lung cancer. She and I were friends before she met my brother in law!

  • Dh has one brother with a SO. He doesn't expect me to be friends, just friendly. lol My BIL tries to set us up as friends occasionally though. It's not that I dislike her, we just don't have a lot in common. Plus, dh and BIL aren't exactly best buds themselves so I'm more comfortable leaving things just as they are. :) Now, as for dh's sisters, I don't know that they'll ever accept me as "family" so I just no longer try there. I'm friendly but I don't go out of my way to hang out other than the holidays.
